EXTINCTIONS CHOICE - Rare Eocene Whale Teeth
Stock Number  XVOVV3
EXTINCTIONS Choice

Name:   Zygorhiza kochii Teeth
Age:  Eocene
Formation:  Santee Limestone Formation
Location:  Harleyville, South Carolina
Size:  Plate is about 6" high and 6" wide
Price:  $1,495.00

This is a very collectible whale fossil.  It is a group of four teeth and paddle bone from the Eocene whale,  Zygorhiza kochii.   Zygorhiza belonged to a family of early whales which developed extremely elongated, eel-like bodies, which grew to 20 feet long.

This specimen is very unique.  Usually, only pieces or parts of this whale are found.  This plate has 4 intact teeth (3 canines and one molar) and a paddle bone on the matrix.  One of the teeth is even in a jaw section.   The largest canine is almost 4 inches long.  All the teeth are fully or partially worked out of the matrix and free-standing - it is an excellent display specimen.  And it is VERY unusual to have this many teeth of this quality in one piece of matrix.   This piece was found in the early 1990's at Blue Circle Cement Co. (now called Lafarge).  This is simply the best fossil whale specimen we have ever had.

A Certificate of Authenticity from EXTINCTIONS is included with this specimen.
