This is a very attractive ammonite. It is an uncommon Hoploscaphites cheyennensis from the Cretaceous of South Dakota. This type of ammonite has numerous nodes and ribs that are quite coarse. The keel also has a row of prominent nodes on both sides. This ammonite is very 3-dimensionally preserved and exhibits fine detail. The cephalopod has the iridescent nacre beautifully displayed in a wide variety of colors. The ammonite was prepared on a small block of matrix for optimal display. This is a very fine example of Hoploscaphites cheyennensis from the Fox Hills Formation.

A Certificate of Authenticity from EXTINCTIONS is included with this specimen.
