This is a HUGE ammonite fossil from the US. It is a massive Hoploscaphites nebrascensis from the Cretaceous of South Dakota. This type of ammonite has numerous ribs and many distinct large nodes. The keel is quite flat, with a row of prominent nodes on both sides. This ammonite is very 3-dimensionally preserved and exhibits fine detail. The cephalopod is extremely inflated and 3-D, and the colorful iridescent nacre is beautifully displayed. The ammonite is wonderfully preserved in a small, natural block of concretionary matrix. This is a very large, very displayable Hoploscaphites nebrascensis from the Fox Hills Formation.
