This is a distinct ammonite fossil. It is a HUGE Hoploscaphites nebraskensis ammonite from the Cretaceous of South Dakota. This type of ammonite has numerous ribs and many small bumps. The keel is quite flat, with a row of prominent nodes on both sides. This ammonite is very 3-dimensionally preserved and exhibits fine detail. The cephalopod is extremely inflated and 3-D, and the white iridescent nacre is beautifully displayed. The ammonite is preserved free of matrix - the back side is also present. This is a very large "loose" Hoploscaphites nebraskensis from the Fox Hills Formation.
A Certificate of Authenticity from EXTINCTIONS is included with this specimen.
