This is a beautiful specimen of Discoscaphites conradi from the Cretaceous of South Dakota. The fossil cephalopod is extremely inflated and complete all the way down to the aperture. The faint ribbing pattern and the nodes around the circumference of the ammonite are nicely preserved. The iridescent mother-of-pearl shell is intact and beautifully displayed on half of the ammonite - the other half of the ammonite displays the unique suture lines in spectacular fashion. The ammonite is well showcased perched on top of the large, natural matrix block that contains MANY other fossils! This is a very collectible display ammonite from the Fox Hills Formation.
A Certificate of Authenticity from EXTINCTIONS is included with this specimen.
