Formation: Fox Hills Formation
Location: South Dakota
Size: Ammonite is 2.1 inches across
This is a beautiful ammonite fossil. It is a detailed Hoploscaphites nicolletti from the Cretaceous of South Dakota. This type of ammonite has numerous ribs and many distinct large nodes. The keel is quite flat, with a row of prominent nodes on both sides. This ammonite is very 3-dimensionally preserved and exhibits fine detail. The cephalopod is well inflated and 3-D, and the reddish-brown iridescent nacre is nicely displayed. The ammonite is wonderfully preserved in a small, natural block of concretionary matrix. This is a very nice Hoploscaphites nicolletti from the Fox Hills Formation.
A Certificate of Authenticity from EXTINCTIONS is included with this specimen.
