This type of primitive echinoderm has a somewhat ovate cup comprised of large, highly ornamented plates - the plate structure of this specimen is easily seen. The fossil has very good color and contrast and is well showcased on its natural plate of shale. This is a fine specimen of Caryocrinites from the Silurian of New York.
