Here is an excellent specimen of Pleuroceras spinatus from the Jurassic of Germany. This type of ammonite has coarse ribs and a wide keel with a continuous ridge running the length of the keel. The ammonite is beautifully preserved in a concretion - both part and counterpart of the fossil are present. The ammonite is very 3-dimensional and exhibits fine detail. The inner whorls of the cephalopod are clearly defined, and the intricate suture pattern is even seen. The ammonite has been replaced by iron pyrite, or ''fool's gold''. The golden coloration of the ammonite makes for a very striking display. This is a wonderful split pair specimen of Pleuroceras spinatus from the Jurassic.
A Certificate of Authenticity from EXTINCTIONS is included with this specimen.
