Formation: Choptank Formation
Location: Calvert County, Maryland
Size: Scallop is 5.1 inches across
This is a very cool fossil bivalve. It is a large Chesapecten nefrens from the Miocene of Maryland. This nice, complete scallop has both valves intact and tightly articulated. Both of the ''ears'' of the fossil scallop are present, and the coarse radial ornamentation of the shell is easily seen. Both sides of the colorful fossil are very clean and display beautifully. This is a textbook example of this classic fossil scallop.
A Certificate of Authenticity from EXTINCTIONS is included with this specimen.
