This is a very cool cephalopod fossil. This is a large specimen of a belemnite, Cylindroteuthis oweni, from the Jurassic of Russia. Belemnites were a squid-like animals, closely related to a modern-day cuttlefish. This bullet-shaped belemnite is unusually complete and very 3-dimensional. The fossil is free of matrix and displays beautifully from all sides. The cephalopod has wonderful orange-brown coloration and a natural transclucent quality. And the fossil comes in a 6.3" X 8.3" glass-topped display case. This is a very collectible specimen of a large (almost FIVE inches long!) Cylindroteuthis belemnite - one of the largest fossil belemnites that ever lived.
A Certificate of Authenticity from EXTINCTIONS is included with this specimen.
