Here is a very interesting cephalopod. This is a fine specimen of a belemnite, Belemnitella kronus, from the Jurassic of Germany. A belemnite was a squid-like animal, closely related to a modern-day cuttlefish. This bullet-shaped belemnite is unusually complete and very 3-dimensional. The fossil is beautifully pearched on a natural block of limestone. The cephalopod has wonderful dark coloration and is preserved on the plate that also contains a partial ammonite. This is a very nice specimen of an extinct Belemnite from Holzmaden, Germany.
