Here is a very interesting Inzeria intia stromatolite from the Precambrian of Australia. Authorities believe that stromatolites were formed by masses of green or blue-green algae, or ''cyanobacteria''. This large stromatolite is estimated to be about 800 million years old! These closely packed stromatolites are believed to have been deposited in conditions that subjected them to intermittent periods of submergence, possibly seasonal in nature. This large chunk of stromatolite has been sliced with a diamond saw and highly polished on one side for optimal display. The cluster pattern of the stromatolites is easily seen, and the different shades of mineral replacement are nicely showcased. This is a very collectible stromatolite specimen that is hundreds of millions of years old.
A Certificate of Authenticity from EXTINCTIONS is included with this specimen.
