This is a nice stromatolite slab from the Cambrian of Australia. It is a striking plate of Mawsonia madaginia. Authorities believe that stromatolites were formed by masses of green or blue-green algae, or ''cyanobacteria''. It is believed that this stromatolite is almost 500 million years old! This colorful slab has been highly polished on one side for optimal display. The unique depositional pattern of the stromatolite is beautifully showcased, and the different shades of the mineral replacement are simply awesome. This is an excellent example of this very uncommon stromatolite from Down Under.
A Certificate of Authenticity from EXTINCTIONS is included with this specimen.
