REAL Woolly Mammoth Hair
Formation: Ice Age Permafrost
Location: Taymyr Peninsula, Siberia, Russia
Size: Frame is about 3.3" X 4.4"
Here is a very unique specimen. This is actual body hair from the Woolly Mammoth, Mammuthus primigenius. This ''wool'' was found in the same area that was featured in the Discovery Channel special, ''Raising the Mammoth''. As you can imagine, only under perfect conditions can actual Woolly Mammoth hair be preserved. This fine clump of hair probably came from the Mammoth's side or underside (see close-up photo for details). There is a sizeable amount of hair present, and it makes for a very displayable specimen. The hair is wonderfully presented in a glass-topped riker mount. This is an extremely unusual fossil from the Ice Age of Russia - what a conversation piece!
A Certificate of Authenticity from EXTINCTIONS is included with this specimen.
