Here is an extremely displayable fossil specimen from a famous Jurassic site in the British Isles. This plate is from the Frodingham Ironstone at Scunthorpe,England. There are two different types of invertebrates preserved on this huge block. At the top is a large bivalve, Cardinia sp., with wonderful detail. The growth lines of the fossil clam are very distinct. Directly below this bivalve is a beautiful example of Asteroceras sp. This striking ammonite has very coarse ribbing with a rounded keel. The inner whorls of this ammonite are very complete and nicely displayed. Below this ammonite is another specimen of Asteroceras that is still partially buried in the matrix. All of these fossils are extremely 3-dimensional and have GREAT color. This beautiful greenish coloration is fully natural - this is a rare occurrence in the fossil record. Overall, this is a very collectible assemblage of wonderfully preserved fossil molluscs.
