Here is an extremely rare specimen that we recently acquired in an old collection. There are two excellent examples of Chiton sieniensis on the slab. Usually, only single plates of these primitive mollusks are found - upon death, the individual plates fall apart very quickly. A complete chiton is extremely rare in the fossil record. This specimen shows TWO complete chitons with all eight, overlapping plates intact. The 3-dimensional fossils have great color and contrast. They are well positioned on the natural block of matrix. This is an exciting specimen of a very uncommon fossil mollusk.
