Here is a very nice solitary coral. This is Heliophyllum halli from the Devonian of New York. The horn coral is preserved in a 3-dimensional manner and exhibits fine detail. The dark gray fossil contrasts nicely with the lighter-colored matrix. It is wonderfully positioned on the large, natural plate of shale that also contains two unprepared corals, a gastropod, and assorted trilobite fragments. This is a great example of a horn coral from the Devonian.
