Here is a nicely detailed example of Simbirskites sp. from the Cretaceous of Russia. This type of ammonite is coarsely ribbed and has a very rounded keel. Extremely prominent nodes are present on the shoulder of this thick-bodied ammonite. This specimen is wonderfully 3-dimensional and exhibits fine detail. The inner whorls of the ammonite are easily seen and the sharp nodes on the shoulder are intact. The lustrous nacre of the shell has great color and contrasts nicely with the gray matrix. The fossil is well positioned on the large piece of concretionary matrix. This is a very displayable specimen of an unusual ammonite from Russia.
