This is a very unusual eurypterid fossil. It is a Balteurypterus tetragonopthalmus from the Ukraine. Specimens of this type surface occasionally, but they are usually very incomplete. This specimen is complete down to the tip of the long telson (tailspine). The eurypterid is preserved ventrally, exposing the walking arms and chelicerae beautifully. It has great detail, and contrasts very well with the light-colored matrix. There is also a dorsal eurypterid head on the plate, showcasing the kidney-shaped eyes wonderfully. This one of the best and most displayable examples of this rare eurypterid that we have seen.
