This is a very sought-after fossil. It is a Mesolimulus walchi horseshoe crab from the famous Solnhofen Limestone of Germany. Horseshoe crabs and dragonflies are probably the most demanded fossils from this site. This specimen is complete and has good color and contrast. The horseshoe crab is inflated and has nice detail. The crab is nicely centered on the large, natural-edged plate of lithographic limestone, which has a natural band of dendrites flowing across the middle of the piece. The matrix also has a small "tail drag" where it crawled across the sea floor before it died. This is a very displayable European fossil from the "Age of the Dinosaurs".
