Here is a nice blastoid. This is Pentremites sp. from the Mississippian of Indiana. This 3-dimensional blastoid is highly unusual in the fact that the brachioles and stem are preserved. Usually, the thin, hair-like brachioles (feeding appendages) are not present. But on this specimen, they are very nicely displayed. Also, a blastoid with the stem intact is highly uncommon. This blastoid has the aesthetically curved stem still tightly attached to the theca. The echinoderm has good color and contrast and is almost perfectly centered on the rectangular plate. This is a fine specimen of Pentremites with the brachioles attached.
