Here is a plate of lithographic limestone with a nice shrimp exposed. This is Carpopenaeus callirostris from the Cretaceous of Lebanon. Due to political unrest, specimens from this location are becoming increasingly difficult to obtain. The fossil has been darkened for contrast (typical of this site). The shrimp has great color and detail, and is beautifully preserved. The segmented carapace and tail are intact. The long legs and antennae are clearly defined. It is nicely positioned on the rectangular plate of matrix. This is a very fine example of a fossil shrimp from Lebanon.
