Here is a fabulously colored specimen from the Jurassic of Russia. There are two different ammonites beautifully displayed on this plate. The larger ammonite is a wonderful example of Cosmoceras sp. This type of ammonite has fine ribbing and a sharp keel. The smaller ammonite is an unusual specimen of Quenstedtoceras sp. This type of cephalopod has wide, coarse ribbing and a more rounded keel. Both ammonites are very 3-dimensional and exhibit great detail. The inner whorls of the ammonites are clearly defined and the nacreous shell is exquisitely preserved. The completely natural, iridescent coloration of the fossils is just fabulous. The flashing red and green colors make this a truly spectacular specimen. The ammonites are well positioned on the large block of concretionary matrix. This is a fantastic specimen of two different ammonites from Russia with almost unbelievable color.
