Here is a nice brachiopod from Ohio. This is Rafinesquina nasuta from the Ordovician layers that also produce Flexicalymene trilobites. This large brachiopod is inflated and exhibits fine detail. The fine plications of the shell are easily seen. The dark gray brachiopod contrasts beautifully with the light gray matrix. It is wonderfully displayed on the natural plate of shale that also contains several other partial brachiopods and two Flexicalymene trilobite cephalons. This is a great example of Rafinesquina associated with other Ordovician fossils from Ohio.
