Here is an excellent specimen of Gogia spiralis from the Middle Cambrian of Utah. This primitive echinoderm used to be known as an eocrinoid, but has now been re-classified as a cystoid. The detail of this primitive echinoderm is just wonderful. The elongate, multi-plated, sac-like holdfast is very distinct and the large-plated, nodose calyx is quite evident. The twisted, spiraled arms are beautifully displayed in a splayed position. This specimen is more inflated than many Gogia specimens. The fossil has great color and contrast and is almost perfectly centered on the squared plate. This is a very detailed specimen of this primitive echinoderm.
