Here is an excellent ammonite. This is Pavlovia sp. from the Jurassic of Northern Russia. This type of ammonite has a very rounded keel and extremely strong ribs that split near the shoulder of the shell. This specimen is very 3-dimensionally preserved and exhibits wonderful detail. The bifurcating ribs are easily seen and even the suture pattern of the cephalopod is evident. The small, inner whorls of the ammonite are beautifully displayed. The ammonite is nicely perched on the natural block of matrix that also contains several fossil bivalves. This is a very attractive example of Pavlovia from the Jurassic of Russia.
