This is a nice example of a Mayfly larva. It is Heptagenia sp. from the Jurassic of China. This large insect larva is very distinct. The head, segmented body, and forked tail are all present and easily seen. Even the ''bristles'' of the body are noticeable. The insect larva has wonderful color and contrasts well with the light-colored matrix. It is nicely positioned on the natural plate of shale. This is one of the most clearly defined specimens of this large insect larva that we have ever seen.
