This is a spectacular ammonite. It is a Cleoniceras cleon from the Cretaceous of Madagascar. This ammonite has been cut in half and both halves have been highly polished. The coiling pattern of the mollusk is easily seen and the individual chambers are wonderfully defined. Each chamber is filled with greenish-yellow calcite - several of the chambers are somewhat hollow and lined with sparkling calcite crystals. The cream-colored suture lines contrast beautifully with the darker chambers of the ammonite making for an outstanding display. This is a stunning specimen of Cleoniceras from Madagascar.
