Here is an excellent fossil brittlestar. This is a new species of Ophiopetra from the Jurassic of Germany. This specimen has been meticulously prepared to reveal the fine detail of the fossil. The large central disc is wonderfully displayed and the long, sinuous arms are intact - even the tube feet of the organism are easily seen. Sometimes, portions of the arms are painted in - not so with this specimen. The thin arms are beautifully preserved - the individual plates of the arms are clearly defined. The fossil has great color and contrast and is extremely well centered on the rectangular plate of lithographic limestone. This is a very collectible specimen of a fossil brittlestar.
