Here is a very nice specimen of Aequipecten sp. from the Pliocene of Florida. This large mollusk has both valves present. The valves are tightly articulated at the hinge line and slightly open on the other side. Both sides of the specimen are free of matrix and very clean in appearance. The only matrix that is present is filling in the space between the valves. The large bivalve displays wonderful ornamentation. The coarse radial corrugations are easily seen, and the fine growth lines are quite visible. This is an excellent specimen of a large fossil bivalve from Florida.
