Here is an extremely rare echinoderm. This is Camptostroma roddyi, from Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Camptostroma is one of the earliest known types of echinoderms. Found in the Lower Cambrian, this Medusa-like animal had a very distinct plate structure. This large specimen has good form and, under magnification, much of the plate structure is defined. Both part and most of the counterpart of this scarce fossil are present. The orange fossil contrasts nicely with the gray matrix. This is a fine example of this primitive echinoderm from the early part of the fossil record.
