This is a very displayable plate of cystoids. These are Pleurocystites squamosus from the Ordovician of Canada. There are five specimens of this primitive echinoderm on the plate - it is very unusual to find this many Pleurocystites in such close proximity to each other. The cystoids exhibit extraordinary detail. The plate structure is easily seen and the pore-rhombs are beautifully displayed. Even some of the arms are present which is highly uncommon. Four of the specimens have the long, tapering stem intact. The cream-colored echinoderms contrast wonderfully with the gray matrix (more striking than the picture shows). The fossils are nicely positioned on the rectangular plate of limestone. This is a very unique plate of Pleurocystites from the Ordovician of Canada.
