Here is a nice vertebrate fossil. This is an unusual jaw bone of a juvenile Percrocuta sp., a hyena, from the Miocene of China. All five teeth are still firmly embedded in the jaw - even the long canine tooth is intact. The teeth have excellent enamel and beautiful coloration. They exhibit hardly any wear - the cusps of the molars are clearly defined, and the canine comes to a nice point. The light brown teeth contrast nicely with the cream-colored bone. Both sides of the jaw are free of matrix and display well. This is a fine specimen of a jaw with teeth from an adolescent hyena.
