This is a fabulous display fossil from the Paleozoic seas of Texas. It is a beautiful multiple plate of Archaeocidaris echinoids. Archaeocidaris are extinct sea urchins that had long, sawblade-like spines. This plate has at least ten urchins represented - very few plates of this size and quality have ever been found.
Almost all the urchins have their full array of spines intact. They are all very well-preserved and extremely detailed. They are nicely spaced on the large, natural matrix plate. It took many meticulous hours of preparation to expose and clean each individual animal. This is a very collectible plate of arguably the most displayable fossil sea urchins found in the world.
