Here is a nice specimen of two different brachiopods from the famous Silica Shale of Ohio. On the left is a very robust specimen of Paraspirifer bownockeri. A large Mediospirifer audaculus is on the right side of the block. Both brachiopods have both valves intact and tightly attached. The different ribbing patterns of the brachiopods are easily seen. The fossils have been replaced by iron pyrite or ''fool's gold'' and contrast well with the gray matrix. The brachiopods are nicely perched on the block of shale. This is a fine specimen of two different brachiopods from the Devonian.
