Here is an extremely interesting ammonite. This is Cleoniceras cleon from the Cretaceous of Madagascar. This ammonite has been sliced in half and both halves have been highly polished to reveal the excellent detail of the cephalopod. The coiling pattern of the mollusk is quite evident and the individual chambers of the ammonite are easily seen. Most of the chambers are hollow and filled with tiny, glistening, golden barite crystals. The striking coloration, the detail of the fossil, and the unusual mineralization make for an exciting exhibit. The ammonite comes in its own glass-topped display case. This is a very pretty specimen of Cleoniceras from Madagascar.
