Here is a nice specimen of Silurian gastropods. These fossil snails are Platyostoma niagarense from the Waldron Shale of Indiana. The quarry where this specimen was found is now filled with water and closed to collecting. There are two nice specimens on this plate. The fossils are extremely 3-dimensional and exhibit fine detail. The coiling pattern of the mollusks is well defined - even the very tiny coils at the tops of the specimens are intact. The black fossils contrast beautifully with the light-colored matrix. They are well positioned on the natural plate of shale. This is a great specimen of Silurian gastropods from this closed site.
