This is a rare type of Jurassic ammonite. It is a Strajevskia hoffmani from the wilds of Siberia, Russia. This type of ammonite has many whorls and an extremely distinct ribbing pattern. This specimen showcases these features beautifully. The keel also has subtle ribbing preserved. The unique suture pattern is still intact and easily seen. The ammonite is fully free of matrix (loose) and displays just as well on the other side. And did I mention that this specimen is over 8 inches across? This is a museum quality example of this strange Russian ammonite.
