This is an excellent ammonite. It is a large Sphenodiscus lenticularis from the Cretaceous of South Dakota. This 3-dimensional specimen has been removed from the matrix so that it can be viewed from all angles. This type of ammonite is quite lenticular in shape with a very sharp keel. Both sides of this unusual ammonite are very ''clean and crisp'' and display the intricate suture pattern beautifully. The white sutures contrast wonderfully with the dark brown shell of the fossil cephalopod. This is an extremely displayable specimen of an ammonite that is becoming very difficult to obtain.
