This is a wonderful primitive echinoderm. It is an extremely rare Glyptocystella sp. from the Ordovician of Canada. This cystoid has a large ovate theca with plates ornamented with irregular radiating ridges. The plates of the theca are beautifully displayed, and several of the large pore-rhombs are clearly defined. A complex ''tangle'' of extremely thin, biserial arms are easily seen, and a portion of the stem is tightly attached to the theca. The cream-colored cystoid contrasts well with the gray matrix. The fossil is nicely presented on the somewhat rounded plate of limestone. This is a very detailed specimen of this highly collectible cystoid.
