Here is a stunning specimen of brachiopods from the Devonian of Ohio. There are four large brachiopods (two different types) on the plate. There are three examples of Paraspirifer bownockeri and one Mediospirifer audaculus on the large block of shale. The brachiopods are EXTREMELY inflated and exhibit fine detail. All of the brachiopods have both valves intact and tightly articulated. The fossils have been replaced by iron pyrite or ''fool's gold'' and contrast nicely with the gray matrix. They are beautifully positioned on the long piece of shale. This is a very displayable brachiopod specimen from the famous Silica Shale.
