Here is a gorgeous specimen of a regular echinoid. This is Arbacia sloani from the Pliocene of South Carolina. This echinoid is very 3-dimensional and exhibits excellent detail. The plate structure is just incredible. Under magnification, each plate displays a rugose or striated surface. This sea urchin displays the ambulacra beautifully and has rows of prominent tubercles on each side of the ambulacra. The fossil has very good color and contrast and is well presented on the natural block of matrix. This is a wonderful example of Arbacia from South Carolina.
