Here is a very nice fossil shrimp. This is Belotelson magister from the Pennsylvanian of Illinois. This famous site (Pit 11) has been closed to collecting for a number of years. The shrimp is well preserved in a siderite concretion. Both halves of the concretion are present so both part and counterpart are intact. The shrimp exhibits fine detail - the head, body, tail, and legs of the shrimp are nicely displayed. Even the gut of the shrimp is easily seen. The fossil has good color and contrast. The arthropod is almost perfectly centered in the round concretion. This is an excellent example of a fossil shrimp from the Paleozoic.
