Here is an unusual fossil. This is a Polychaete Worm from the Pennsylvanian of Illinois. This location has been closed to collecting for a number of years. Worms are not commonly preserved as fossils due to the absence of hard parts. There are only a few places in the world where fossil worms are found. This fossil is well preserved in a siderite concretion. Both halves of the concretion are intact so both part and counterpart of the fossil are present. The light-colored worm contrasts wonderfully with the darker concretionary matrix. This is a great example of a fossil Polychaete Worm from the Pennsylvanian.
