This is a primitive Canadian echinoderm. It is a cystoid (Pleurocystites) from the Ordovician layers of Ontario. Cystoids were primitive echinoderms, and are now extinct. This specimen is complete, which is very unusual. The tail, body, and two arms are still intact. The detail is excellent, displaying the plate structure very well. The cystoid is beautifully centered on a natural matrix plate. We acquired this specimen from an old US collection. It is a textbook example of this unusual Ordovician echinoderm.
