This is a nice plate of lithographic limestone with a beautiful shrimp exposed. This is Carpopenaeus callirostris from the Cretaceous of Lebanon. Due to political unrest, specimens from this location are becoming increasingly difficult to obtain. The fossil has been darkened for contrast (typical of this site). The shrimp has great color and detail, and is wonderfully preserved. The segmented carapace, legs, and long antennae are nicely displayed. It is almost perfectly centered on the rectangular plate of matrix. This is a great example of a fossil shrimp from Lebanon.
