This is a classic British ammonite. It is a Dactylioceras commune from the Lias Beds of England. This type has been known as "snakestones" for over 1000 years. This type of ammonite has many coils - this specimen has five complete circular loops! The detail is very nice. The ammonite is preserved in a natural stone concretion. This is a fine example of this ancient ammonite.
