Here is a nice sea urchin from Texas. This is a large Macraster elegans from the Cretaceous. This echinoid has been removed from the surrounding matrix so that it can be viewed from all angles. The echinoid is extremely inflated and exhibits very good detail. The petaloid ambulacra of the heart-shaped urchin are easily seen. A small fossil oyster is tightly attached to the reverse side of the echinoderm. This is a fine specimen of Macraster from Texas.
