This is a very rare fossil. It is a horseshoe crab, Euproops danae, from the Pennsylvanian of Missouri. The fossil is well preserved in a concretion. Both halves of the concretion are present, so both part and counterpart of the fossil are intact. Thousands of these concretions are broken before one of these ancient horseshoe crabs is found. The horseshoe crab exhibits very good detail - the head and body are both present and nicely articulated. The dark brown fossil contrasts well with the lighter-colored concretion. This is a fine specimen of a primitive horsehoe crab from the "coal-age" deposits of Missouri.
