This is a nice fossil crustacean. It is a Macrophthalmus latrellei from the Pleistocene of Australia. The crab is 3-dimensionally preserved and totally free of matrix. The top of the carapace is covered with a multitude of small granulations, and the underside of the carapace has the plate structure clearly defined. Many of the legs are present and one claw is totally intact - the legs and part of the claws are lined, on both margins, with sharp spikes. This is a very intriguing Ice Age fossil from ''Down Under''.
